Monster of the Day #579

Man, must get crowded in that cave!

Here’s a better look at the monster suit, which Corman unsurprisingly reused for another movie. I saw this one for the first time just recently. Sci-Fi now is much more mainstream, but back in the day I’m sure there were people who really had their mind blown by the Cronenberg-esques horrors in this one.

I love how this monster’s “weapon of conquest” was talking humans to death. Pity he never faced off with Kirk or Picard on Star Trek.

  • Ken_Begg

He did! It started about three years ago, but there hasn’t been a winner yet.

If they would just fill that cave in, they could end half of the alien threats to this planet.

  • Ken_Begg

    True, but what about Batman?

  • bgbear_rogerh

I think a one-percenter like Bruce Wayne could make due.

Besides it was Batman who thought a road barrier and a few branches would keep the aliens out. Where did he get that idea, The Dept of Homeland Security?

  • This one does not get enough credit for being ahead of the time in terms of the body horror/alien impregnation genre.

  • This is actually the second incarnation of this monster. Roger used it first in TEENAGE CAVEMAN, then he turned over the left-over suit to his brother Gene, who made NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST. Knowing a good thing when he had it, it seems, Gene made sure to put the Beast on camera a lot more than Roger did. Dandy pic, with a terrific poster to boot!

  • Ken_Begg

Good to know! I thought it was the other way around.

    “I’ll impregnate you! Bgawk!”
Yeah, a great MST3K as well.

  • zombiewhacker

I watch the MST3K version of this every Thanksgiving, complete with the original Sci-Fi Turkey Day bumpers.

  • That’s what I read in the fantastic book “Sleaze Creatures” by D. Earl Worth. The production dates also confirm this, as I understand TEENAGE CAVEMAN was shot in ’57, NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST in ’58.

  • The Rev.

After I got the set with this movie, I did the same thing.

We also watch Paul Lynde’s Halloween special for Halloween because we are very masochistic.
